Neodymium magnets are the most powerful permanent magnets available today, and the most commonly used rare earth magnets, and are used in a wide range of electronic products, such as hard disks, speakers and headphones, as well as in motors for electric vehicles and generators for wind turbines.
Neodymium magnets are easily corroded and the surface layer is peeled off or broken into fine particles, so it is necessary to do protection treatment on the surface of the permanent magnet material, such as plating with nickel, zinc, gold, tin, and surface spraying epoxy resin.
Neodymium magnets have excellent characteristics such as high remanence, high coercivity, and high magnetic energy product, but their Curie temperature is lower than many other types of magnets, and when the temperature rises above 100°C, the coercivity decreases dramatically, which results in a loss of magnetic properties in high temperature environments. By adding heavy rare earths such as dysprosium and terbium to the formula, the coercivity of neodymium magnets can be increased to improve the heat resistance of the magnets, which can be used in high-temperature operating environments such as electric vehicle drive motors and wind turbines.
